IIT Kanpur - Desi News

Here you will find some of the latest news about Kanpur that I can get hold of and what is going on in its civic life. Maybe not many of us were bothered about the civic life, maybe IIT Kanpur never quite belonged to Kanpur, maybe not even to India. Maybe pursuing wealth, professional excellence, competitive wizardry built upon hard work were what we all essentially focussed on and built up our lives to pursue. IIT Kanpur was no more than a stepping stone for us. Remember Kalyanpur, Allen forest and IIT Kanpur ?
We welcome your feedback on the look and design of our poor unsophisticated HTML web page. But it may sometimes be certainly good to breathe a whiff of that priceless IIT Kanpur air of our youth, once in a while, no matter what part of the world you live in and what you are upto nowadays.
- Not just for the sake of old memories, but maybe because you feel that some part of Kanpur will never go out of your thoughts. Personally, maybe I am just reliving my old CounterPoint mag days - the cyclostyled pages outside the hall canteens you woke upto in the morning. And now that I am old enough so that nothing really matters as much as it used to, in a sense.
So gentlemen, this simple web page is to salute those Kanpur IITians whom I hear of as having done, in my humble opinion, genuine service to Kanpur, to India and Indians. ....its only words...and words are all I have....
Maybe that something more poignant than the corporate or government websites that carry the considerable weight of your bio data. After all who doesn't want to earn wealth, fame and success for them selves and their own families. I wanted a web page to salute those comrades of IIT Kanpur who have actually succeeded in giving back to India in a measure equal to their limitless potential.
Those eternal guys to whom I can proudly point my kids to - hey this chap studied in IIT Kanpur and it would be great if you could try to be a bit like him. Maybe some of these guys will not make it to the Distinguished Alumnus Award, but what the heck, there's more to life.
Please feel free to send in links to any related websites, it would be great to see some other websites that deal with nostalgia, memorabilia or whatever else it may be called.
I for one still remember the AC Library, the cooling fountains outside, the sweltering late nights in the summers, the canteens, the swimming pool, the loneliness of SAC, waiting at bus stops, the early morning quizzes and still remember the terror of it all.

  • Palm greasing in every second government department - even for routine tasks. It seems a minority of IIT Kanpur Desis are also busy raking in money in addition to the monthly salary packet they collect from the government -
Some say it is an international phenomena, not just a desi phenomena.
Some also use the term "systemic corruption" with a shrug. Some say, we are cogs in the wheel. Some say Ram aur Krishna ke pradesh mein koi bhi doodh ka dhula nahin.
In all fairness, they just might have some very compelling reasons for demanding and accepting bribes (some call it seva shulk). Maybe ten daughters dowry to arrange, who knows ? Sounds a bit philosophical, but nevertheless, convenient, isn't it ? The dialectics and phenomenology of governmental corruption is very complex !
